Taking engagement photos near the Cherry Blossom Trees is always a favorite for Washington DC area couples.  They are so beautiful.  And if this upcoming weekend’s weather predictions are any indication, this year’s cherry blossoms should not disappoint.

According to the National Cherry Blossom Festival web site, the peak dates for the cherry blossoms will be April 3 through April 9.  Please keep in mind this is when 70% of the blossoms of the Yoshino Cherry trees that surround the Tidal Basin are open.

Where Are The Cherry Blossoms?

The cherry blossom trees currently grow in three National Park Service locations:  1.) Around the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park; 2.) East Potomac Park (Haines Point); and 3.) On the Washington Monument Grounds.

Check out this site for information on which varieties of cherry blossom trees are located in which park and maps.

The Crowds

When planning to take your engagement photos, please keep in mind that crowds are typically their heaviest on the weekends.  There is no guarantee, but there are often fewer visitors during the week, early in the morning and late afternoon/early evening.

If you decide that you want to include your favorite pooch in your engagement photo, you will be happy to know that dogs are allowed on the National Mall and Memorial Parks, but you have to keep your dog on a leash 100% of the time.

Sidebar

Did you know you can get married under the cherry blossom trees?  According to the National Cherry Blossom Festival website, you have to get permission from the Office of Park Programs/Permits first. Please call (202) 619-7225 and ask them to fax you a Public Gathering Permit application.  The rule is that groups of more than 25 people are required to have a permit.  You will need to fill it out and fax it back to them at (202) 401-2430.  This office will help you find a location for your event so that it does not interfere with other groups who already would have a permit.

If you decide to take your engagement or wedding photos near the Cherry Blossoms, please share them with me.  I am happy to post them for all to envy!

Enjoy!

Love & Soul Always, Kay
