The late Princess Diana wanted to support England’s fashion industry when she searched for her wedding gown, so she selected a young British couple, Elizabeth and David Emanuel of London’s Mayfair district. They had only been in business only seven years. Of course, their business shot to the moon after making Diana’s ivory taffeta and antique lace wedding gown with a 25-foot train.

The making of this wedding gown was closely guarded. In fact, from the time of the March announcement that the Emanuels would be making Diana’s wedding gown until the July wedding, the windows of their couture shop were covered with blinds and security guards were hired to protect the shop from burglars and reporters. Everyone had to wait until the morning of the wedding when they received the details of Diana’s gown in sealed envelopes.

By the way, the Emanuels later divorced, but they still remain in couture fashion. David now runs David Emanuel Couture and designs for an international clientele. He has also hosted several of his own television series. His most popular is “Shop the World.”

Love & Soul Always, Kawania
